Mindfulness

  • "Mr. Duffy lived at a little distance from his body."

    ― James Joyce, Dubliners (1914)

Modern living with 24/7 busyness and tech-connectivity can leave us feeling scattered.

Are you…

…stressed and over-burdened by expectations - to deliver, to perform, caring for others, juggling responsibilities?

….seeking a better relationship with your body?

….stuck in your head instead of in the moment?

….overwhelmed by a medical condition such as a gut disorder, heart disease or chronic pain?

….seeking enhanced well-being, balance and joy in your life?

Mindfulness is one doorway to waking up and finding ease in a ‘frantic world’.

Mindfulness is a way of being. It allows open awareness where we cultivate the ability to notice - and let go of - constant judgment.

Crucially, mindfulness is about paying attention in a particular way - as kindly and gently as we can - with curiosity, patience and self-compassion. It is an invitation to befriend ourselves as we already are.

It is in this space that choice becomes available, and we no longer feel jerked around by conditioned, automatic behaviors.

Common Questions

  • Is mindfulness religious?

Mindfulness is not a religion. Mindfulness teachings are rooted in ancient wisdom practices from various religions, supported by modern scientific research on brain neurobiology. Mindfulness is a completely secular practice.

  • Is mindfulness like therapy?

No. Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR ) may powerfully complement treatment you may be undergoing. However, it is not a substitute for mental health or medical treatment.

  • Will mindfulness fix my problems?

Mindfulness is a way of being. It is not a cure-all or magic bullet. Mindfulness opens up a way of being, creating space to tune into inner wisdom with presence and pause.

  • Should everyone practice mindfulness?

There are situations and times where embarking on a mindfulness based course may not be recommended. If you are curious about participating in a course, we discuss together if mindfulness is something that would be helpful or appropriate for you right now. There are many ways to reduce stress levels or enhance well-being in life, whether it be mindfulness, physical exercise, yoga, therapy or other approaches.

  • I’ve tried meditation and failed - my mind is too busy!

Mindfulness meditation is not about clearing your mind or entering a trance-like state. In fact, it is the opposite - It's about being fully present and aware.
